Advertisement industry is one of the biggest industry globally. Ad film makers do a lot of efforts in the making of a particular ad for a brand. The brand owners , also tie up with the films and we have seen many a times that how marketing or branding of a particular product is done
They use movies as an effective advertising platform!
But many a times it’s just an exaggeration of the brands in movies and seems that the ad is promoting a film.
Have a look at some of the movies , over-promoting the ads :
1. Mountain Dew in Mission Istaanbul.
Remember Mission Istaanbul? Mountain Dew had a grand branding in the movie .
It was Mountain Dew Vs entire cast of the movie.
There is a scene , where Zayed and Vivek are standing with the softdrink can in their hand.Where Zayed looks little confused but Vivek is confident.
So, the makers of the film decide to give him this extremely important message.
2. Bournvita in the Koi… Mil Gaya franchise.
It seems Jadoo was also having Bournvita apart from solar energy . Rohit was gaining all those magical powers with Bournvita , I guess…
And not just Rohit. Even his son Krrish is addicted to it.
The placement of Bournvita is such, that even if you close your eyes, you won’t be able to ignore it.
3. Sansui television in Jaani Dushman.
By now, we all agree that Jaani Dushman was on a trip of its own.
But having a full-blown commercial for a television set right in the middle of the movie was crazy even by Jaani Dushman’s standards.
One moment Akshay and Rambha are watching television…
And the next thing you know, there’s a full-blown ad for Sansui televisions right in the middle of the movie.
And there’s not just one ad.
There are two of them.
Back to back!
First, they come out of the blue. And then they just don’t end.
Talk about feeling cheated.
4. Pass Pass in Yaadein.
There are a lot of things family bonds upon.
But there are very few families that show the kind of glee and happiness this family shows regarding popular mouth freshener Pass Pass.
It’s pretty evident that the only reason the family eats food is not that they’re hungry.
But so that they can have Pass Pass later.
After all, it does make the father-daughter bond stronger.
5. Lyra, Close-Up, Hero and Make My Trip in Half Girlfriend.
You know what’s a bigger talent than making a film on a Chetan Bhagat novel?
Advertising 4 brands in a single song.
It starts off with Lyra…
And then boom! In the very next shot, we find out who all had crowdfunded this movie.
6. Maruti Ertiga in Mere Dad Ki Maruti.
Why go for a product placement when your entire movie can be a product in itself?
Which is probably what Mere Dad Ki Maruti was.
Maruti Ertiga was launched in India in April 2012. And a year later, this film was made to popularize the car amongst the masses.
And they made sure that everybody got the message.
By making the central plot of the movie about a guy who tries to locate his dad’s Maruti Ertiga that he’s misplaced.
7. Black Dog in Shahenshah.
Drinking might be injurious to health but brand placement is extremely beneficial to the brand.
As was told to us via Amrish Puri when he asks the bartender to serve him Black Dog because he’d seen a ‘gori titli’ that day. And was now feeling as if ‘millions of black dogs’ were barking from within him. What a dialogue…
8. Nike in Yuvraaj.
Nike was visible in the scenes , more than the acting skills of Anil Kapoor .
Anil did that branding well!!
9. Tide in Chup Chup Ke.
Marketing of the detergent brand Tide was done in the movie.
More than the actors, the makers made sure Tide was captured in all its glory.
This angle is the best one probably..
10. Domino’s Pizza in Phir Hera Pheri.
BabuRao in the movie , seems to love Dominos as the marketing skills just reflects the same.
Why else would they put in an entire segment where Babu bhaiyya waxes eloquent about Domino’s aadha ghanta nahin toh free offer?
11. Parle-G in Aabra Ka Daabra.
One of the largest selling brand of glucose biscuits in the world is none other than Parle-G. It was weird to watch the advertisement of the same as it does not require much publicity.
They even advertised Parle-G that had already been advertised as a print ad in the movie.
12. Bodyguard : Sony’s Vaio notebooks, Blackberry smart phones, Tupperware, the Audi Q7 and Salman’s own bodyguard, Shera’s security company name tag!
12 .Bollywood and bike, scooty and bicycle.
Bobby may have just kick-started this whole trend by featuring the Rajdoot GTS 175. Rajdoot even went on to name that model the Bobby Rajdoot!
Followed by the trendiest desi motorbike of them all – the Royal Enfield! Farhan Akhtar and Katrina Kaif just elevated its coolness in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobaara!
From the comparatively modest nitrous oxide powered Suzuki, Dhoom went onto give its villains a touch of luxury by introducing the BMW! Whattey leap!
Ranbir seems to be fond of his two wheelers – the TVS scooty and classic Avon cycle!
13. Coke in Taal and Shuddh Desi Romance
Remember Aishwarya’s sneaking a bottle of cola in Taal? Well Coke has changed its game and become more subtle. You barely noticed Vaani Kapoor with it in Shuddh Desi Romance!
14. ACC cement (Gori Tere Pyaar Mein) and Tupperware (We Are Family)!
Seems Kareena Kapoor on her part loves to endorse ghareloo products like Tupperware .
15. Leh in 3 idiots and Jab Tak Hai Jaan
Never underestimate the power of a Bollywood film! It can single handedly improve the tourism of cities . 3 Idiots and Jab Tak Hai Jaan did wonders for Leh-Ladhak ,making it a great tourist place.
16. Discovery channel promotion Canon cameras In Jab Tak Hai Jaan
In Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Anushka Sharma carried Discovery Channel and Canon cameras ki izzat on her shoulders! Akira, you did good!
17. ICICI, TATA Tea and Archies in Baghban
If Baghban made you cry because of its shoddy showcase of product like ICICI, TATA Tea and Archies instead of the Amitabh-Hema tragic drama, then join the club!
18. Yes bank, Sunsilk , Verve in Bewakoofian , 2 States, Fashion and Dostana
A modern day main character in a film has to work somewhere, right? Bring in Yes Bank, Sunsilk and Verve magazine (Bewakoofian, 2 States and Dostana, respectively) problem solved!
19 SRK Special : Nokia Lumia in Chennai Express,Lays in Main Hoon Na and Tag Heuer in Don 2.
King Khan is one person who can get away with anything. He literally incorporated a mini advertisement on Nokia Lumia in Chennai Express and we didn’t bat an eyelash. He coolly held a packet of Lay’s magic masala in Main Hoon Na and all we said was “No One Can Eat Just One”. And well, he pulled off that Tag Heuer watch on Don 2’s poster!
20 Maybelliene in Om Shanti Om and Lo’real in Aisha
Let’s climb onto the cosmetic bandwagon. Om Shanti Om’s Deepika swore by Maybelline beauty products just like Aisha’s Sonam couldn’t get enough of L’Oreal! Maybe this is how their rivalry started!
