1. Shahrukh was not first choice for DDLJ
To you surprise , the king of romance who just compliment the movie was not the first choice of the director Aditya Chopra. He wanted to cast Tom Cruise instead. Initially, the title of the film was also ‘The Braveheart Will Take the Bride’.
2. Shahrukh refused to do the film
Again , when the director offered the script to SRK , he didn’t find it interesting . Rather , he refused the movie . Aditya Chopra convinced Shah Rukh to play a role in the film. If Shahrukh would have not agreed, then this role was being offered to Saif Ali Khan.
3. Kajol hesitated for towel dance
Initially , when Kajol heard about the scene for the shoot of the song ‘Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye’ , she has to dance in a towel and was hesitating to do this scene. Then director Aditya Chopra assured her that he would present the scene in a classy manner. After seeing the song, Kajol was very happy and also praised Aditya Chopra.
4. Uday Chopra and Karan Johar locked themselves in a room
Uday Chopra and Karan Johar were given the responsibility of editing the video of the making of the film. For this work, both of them kept themselves locked in the editing room for several days.
5. Kirron Kher suggested the title
The title name for this movie was suggested by famous actor Anupam Kher’s wife, Kirron Kher. In fact, the credits of the movie also carry her name under ‘title suggested by’.
6. When Shahrukh started speaking in Haryanvi
We all know about the beautiful mustard fields in the background , when the song ‘Tujhe Dekha toh yeh jaana sanam’ was shot .The location of the shoot was Gurgaon. The farmers of Haryana protested over the shooting of the song as their crops were severely damaged. Shah Rukh then pacified the farmers by speaking in Haryanvi language.
7. Mehndi Laga Ke Rakhna made for other movie
One of the most popular tracks ‘Mehndi Laga Ke Rakhna‘ from the movie was originally made for some other movie.
8. Kajol’s green outfit
Designer Manish Malhotra has always been designing for director Aditya Chopra and Kajol’s green outfit in song ‘Mehndi Laga Ke Rakhna’ was also designed by him. However, Aditya Chopra wasn’t in the favor of it as traditionally Punjabi brides would wear colours like red, maroon or pink.
9. When Raj shows Simran the kisses on his chest
One of the hilarious scene of the movie was where SRK opens his shirt and play a prank of kisses with Kajol . Raj teases Simran about the previous night was actually shot with a lot of difficulty. The real reason was that every time Shah Rukh Khan would open his shirt, Kajol would start giggling, as the lips on Shah Rukh Khan’s chest were drawn by Kajol.
10. Name ‘Raj’ dedication to Raj Kapoor
Aditya Chopra named Shahrukh in the film ‘Raj’ which was inspired by the showman Raj Kapoor. His full name in the film was Rajnath, which was inspired by Rishi Kapoor’s name in the 1973 film ‘Bobby’.
11. Real expression of Kajol
During the shooting of the film song ‘Rukh Jaa O Dil Deewane’ , Kajol didn’t know that SRK would drop her in real in the end of the song. Director Aditya Chopra did this intentionally as he wanted to shoot the real expression of Kajol.
12. A leather jacket
The popular leather jacket which Shah Rukh Khan wore in the movie was originally purchased by Uday Chopra from a Harley-Davidson store in Bakersfield for $400.
13. Mere khwabon mein jo aaye was written 24 times
Song ‘Mere khwaboon mein jo aaye’ was at the initial of the movie and apparently, lyricist Anand Bakshi had written the song 24 times. Anand Ji had approached director Aditya Chopra and showed him the song however Chopra kept rejecting the lyrics until the 24th time.
14. When Anupam Kher used his real uncle’s name
In the scene where Anupam Kher tells his son Raj about how his forefathers and their academic whereabouts, he was actually telling the names of his real and not-so-academically successful uncles!
15. Armaan Kohli’s bad luck
Actor Armaan Kohli was in the mind of the director Aditya Chopra to play the role of Simran’s fiance, Kuljeet in the movie. As luck would have it, the role went to Parmeet as he came to the audition wearing boots, jeans and a waistcoat!
