Boundaries make the games more exciting, and the crowd loves to see the ball hitting the stands or going out of the stadium. When it comes to witnessing sixes and fours, T20 format surely reigns supreme, but that doesn’t mean ODI hasn’t had its fair share of swashbuckling boundaries. Over the years, we came across numerous shots being smashed over the fence to get a sixer for the team.
Here are the top 10 teams with most sixes in ODI cricket.
1- Windies – 2686 Sixes
Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo, Darren Sammy and Lendl Simmons are some of the current players in the Caribbean nation’s team. It is hardly surprising and almost an inevitability that West Indies are at first place in this list. They have almost played 150 matches less than the top placed team in this list and the difference in sixes hit is not that huge.
2- India – 2685 Sixes
Team India has hit a massive 2685 sixes in ODI cricket since they started playing in the year 1973. Players like Rohit Sharma, Yuvraj Singh, Sachin Tendulkar, Mahendra Singh Dhoni have or are playing for India and thus the number of sixes hit looks normal for such a talented team.
3- Pakistan – 2415 Sixes
Pakistan is among the three teams in the world who have hit more than 2000 sixes in One-Day Internationals. Their total of 2415 sixes has come since 1973. Shahid Afridi tops the list for Pakistan and is among the leading six hitters in international cricket.
4- Australia – 2281 Sixes
The current best team of the world in ODIs has scored a fascinating 2281 sixes in One-Day International cricket over the years since their first ODI in 1971. Australia has always been among the best teams in the world and they are the team to beat at most International competitions. It is no surprise seeing the number of boundaries that they have hit in the format.
5- New Zealand – 2208 Sixes
New Zealand have scored 2208 sixes in ODIs. Corey Anderson, Brendon McCullum and Martin Guptill played some of the finest knocks which were studded with some huge sixes, pleasing and amazing the crowds around the world.
6- England – 1796 Sixes
England is somewhat surprisingly at a lower position in this list. England has produced some of the best technical batsmen over the years but they somehow lack the kind of batsmen who can single-handedly destroy oppositions. Say someone like Chris Gayle or Glenn Maxwell who can hit some huge sixes.
7- South Africa – 1745 Sixes
Considering the fact that South Africa only started playing in 1991, it is a remarkable achievement to be the 7th best team on this list. Batsmen like AB de Villiers, Smith, Klusener, Kallis and McKenzie have donned the shirts of this nation and have treated us all with some of the best-attacking displays in world cricket.
8- Sri Lanka – 1652 Sixes
The island nation of Sri Lanka has scored 1652 sixes in ODIs. Sri Lankan batsmen have played some of the best cricket in recent times and they have also been world champions of ODIs in 1996. Also, they have scored a total of 14617 fours in One-Day Internationals over the years since 1975.
9- Zimbabwe – 1182 Sixes
Andy Flower, Grant Flower, Alistair Campbell and Brendan Taylor & Sean Williams have all showed the world what they are capable of doing in ODI cricket. Some monstrous sixes have been hit by the team from African continent. Their total of 1182 sixes is proof of that.
10- Bangladesh – 817 Sixes
The Bangladesh team has scored a total of 817 sixes in ODIs so far. Players like Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal have displayed their clean hitting skills and Bangladesh has emerged as a serious contender in recent times.
