Former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been one of the greatest wicket-keepers in the world cricket. Rishabh Pant is considered to be the successor of great wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni. But in a short career, Pant has achieved some such records that are not even in Dhoni’s name.
Here is a look at a few records that Pant holds over MS Dhoni.
5- Century in England
Mahendra Singh Dhoni has not scored a single century on foreign soil in his Test career. But Rishabh Pant has scored a century on his first overseas tour. Pant, who was playing his 3rd Test match, smashed a brilliant hundred for India against England in the final Test of the series. He had scored 114 runs in that innings.
4- Quickest to fifty Test dismissals
Rishabh Pant surpassed cricketing legend Dhoni and became the fastest Indian keeper to claim 50 dismissals in Test cricket. Pant took 11 Test matches to achieve the milestone record which was previously held by Dhoni, who had taken 15 Tests to achieve this feat.
3- Test Century in Australia
Rishabh Pant earlier in his Test career first scored a century on the ground of England and later against Australia, he scored a century on their land. He scored 159 runs in the Sydney Test. Pant also became the first Indian wicket-keeper to score a century in Australia, against Australia in a test match.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s batting record against Australia is good on Indian soil but he does not have a single century in Test matches in Australia.
2- Most catches in test series
Rishabh Pant had taken a total of 20 catches in the Test series against Australia, which is the record for the most catches by an Indian wicketkeeper in a Test series. Dhoni could not do this feat in his Test career.
1- Rishabh Pant’s 65 Is the highest individual score for wicket-keeper in T20I
Rishabh Pant broke the Indian record for the highest score by an Indian wicketkeeper in T20Is. It was when he hit a match-winning 65 for the team in the 3rd T20I against West Indies.
Meanwhile, Dhoni’s highest score is 56 runs in the International T20 match.
