Fans are rejoicing at the news of the comeback of the popular crime drama Mirzapur Season 2. Since the announcement of season 2 was made, the social media was flooded with memes and tweets by fans who are excited to binge-watch the show.
However, an old tweet by Ali Fazal has turned out to be the reason why Twitterati has been asking for boycotting Mirzapur season 2. The particular tweet is about the anti-CAA protest that India witnessed later last year. The tweet of Fazal supporting the protests was dug up and netizens accused him of inciting violence.
Ali Fazal’s tweet in December 2019 read, “Protests: Suru majboori mein kiye thhey, ab maja aa raha hai”. And this has sparked the debate. The hashtag #BoycottMirzapur2 has been trending on social media since then.
Have a look at some of the reactions on Twitter:
Some users expressed that they were looking forward to the release of the second season but Fazal’s tweets have changed their mind.
Along with actors like Pankaj Tripathi, Divyenndu, Shweta Tripathi Sharma, Rasika Dugal and Harshita Shekhar Gaur, the new season will also have additions like Vijay Varma, Priyanshu Painyuli and Isha Talwar. Mirzapur Season 2 will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on October 23, 2020 in multiple Indian languages.
