With the world and the nation fighting the deadly coronavirus pandemic, the underprivileged are not only at a higher risk of contracting the infection but also suffer in terms of facing a lack of income and meeting basic needs to survive amid the lockdown.
With the situation and economy looking direr with each passing day, celebrities are offering what help they can and providing aid to the less fortunate. While one such individual to make headlines of late is Bollywood actor Sonu Sood, who has been going out of his way to help the needy and migrant workers.
But there are other celebrities too who are also doing their bit to help. Not only did they pledge support to the PM CARES fund and other relief work but they also arranged different means to help the administration tackle the situation.
Here’s how these 10 celebs have been helping the people in need from behind the scene to fight the coronavirus.
1- Amitabh Bachchan
Apart from donating thousands of PPE kits to hospitals, Big B with the help of AB Corp Ltd’s MD Rajesh Yadav has been distributing cooked food packets, dry ration to people in need across Mumbai on a daily basis.
2- Athiya Shetty
Athiya along with her mom has collaborated with ‘Save The Children India’ to distribute groceries, medicines and hearing aids to underprivileged kids.
3- Vikas Khanna
Despite being in New York amid the lockdown, chef Vikas Khanna has been constantly helping people in need with essentials for months now. He has already distributed four million dry ration meals as well as other essential goods across 79 cities in India.
4- Rakul Preet Singh
Actress Rakul Preet Singh has been doing her bit by taking care of the people residing in the slums near her house in Gurgaon. The actress and her family have been feeding as many as 200 families living in the slum every single day and plan to do it until the lockdown is called off.
5- Prakash Raj
Tollywood actor, Prakash Raj is doing his bit amid the lockdown. He has paid advance salaries to all the employees working at his production house, house, farm, foundation and stalled films apart from also fostering around 1,000 families and providing them with essentials. Reportedly, he is also helping migrant workers to reach their native place by arranging buses for them.
6- Richa Chadha
Richa Chadha made a statement that she would rather help the needy in ‘kind’ because she finds donation announcements in crores and lakhs obnoxious. So she donated 600 kg of ration to a local Gurdwara and plans to continue doing that every week.
7- Varun Dhawan
Varun is doing his bit by distributing meals to “the poor who are without homes or jobs”. Moreover, Varun also collaborated with Taj Public Service Welfare Trust to provide meals to all the doctors and medical staff at hospitals.
8- Ayesha Takia
In order to help frontline workers, Ayesha Takia and her husband have turned their Mumbai hotel into a quarantine facility for BMC workers and Mumbai Police officers.
Apart from donating Rs 50 lakh to the members of FEFSI (Film Employees Federation of South India), Rajnikanth is also providing groceries to thousands of actors of Nadigar Sangam union.
10- Anurag Kashyap
Anurag Kashyap came up with a unique way of raising funds for an initiative related to coronavirus test kits. The director took to his Twitter account to auction his Filmfare award for Gangs of Wasseypur to the highest bidder in order to raise the funds.
Apart from these celebs, many other people and organizations are also doing their best to help the country.
