Indian cricketers attract a lot of public attention. Be it their professional life or personal life but almost everything they do becomes a news. But the work span of a cricketer is limited. So, they have to look for other jobs before their retirement. Keeping that in mind, the Government has rewarded many talented cricketers with prestigious positions.
Here are a few such cricketers who are also government officials.
1- Mahendra Singh Dhoni
Dhoni is one of the best captains of Indian cricket team. He was conferred the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel by the Indian Territorial Army in 2011 and Dhoni takes a lot of pride in wearing the army colours.
2- Sachin Tendulkar
The God of cricket, Sachin Tendulkar was honoured as Group Captain in the Indian Air Force in 2010. He was also nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 2012.
3- Harbhajan Singh
Harbhajan Singh is one of the best off-spinners of India. He was appointed as a Deputy Superintendent by Punjab Police.
4- Kapil Dev
The first Indian captain to lift the World Cup trophy is also the first Indian cricketer who was conferred the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in Indian Army. Kapil Dev was conferred with the prestigious post in 2008, three years before Dhoni.
5- Umesh Yadav
Umesh Yadav, who was an aspiring constable a decade ago, was honoured with the post of an assistant manager in Reserve Bank of India, Nagpur in 2017.
6- Joginder Singh Sharma
Joginder Singh Sharma is mostly remembered for bowling the last over of the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup final. He was awarded a job of Deputy Superintendent of Police by the Haryana Police after his exploits in the World Cup.
7- KL Rahul
KL Rahul is one of the most talented batsmen in the Indian cricket team. Rahul has been honoured the post of an assistant manager in Reserve Bank of India.
8- Yuzvendra Chahal
Indian leg-spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal has been roped by the Income Tax Department for the post of an Income tax officer .
