There’s nothing wrong with a good love story on film. Love stories are one of the cornerstones of the filmmaking industry.
That being said, not every movie needs a love story. You would think that’s obvious. Sadly, countless films over the years have tried to force a love story into a movie that just doesn’t need one. There are always going to be misguided attempts at inserting a romantic angle into as many movies as possible in order to please some unknown demographic that apparently craves such things.
Here are a few movies that should have completely ignored the romance angle and focused on the main story instead:
1- Swades
The movie revolves around NASA scientist Mohan and his work in the village. The romantic relationship between Mohan and Gita in the movie does nothing good to the film at all, apart from a nice song.
2- Shakuntala Devi

The movie starring Vidya Balan is a biopic of ‘human computer’, Shakuntala Devi. The biopic is more into her affairs and relationships instead of her journey with the maths.
3- Lagaan

The romantic plot between Bhuvan and Gauri fits the story, however, Elizabeth falling for Bhuvan was a tad bit over the top.
4- Rang De Basanti

While Durga and Ajay’s relationship was crucial to the storyline, DJ falling in love with Sue seemed too ‘Bollywood’.
5- PK

There was no point showing the love relationship between PK and Jagat as there were many other things going on.
6- Dear Zindagi

A story about a young woman who has lived with childhood trauma all her life finally finds a therapist who changes her life. Why did she have to be attracted to him?
7- Gully Boy

Sky falling for Murad is a bit dramatic and didn’t do anything good for the story at all.
8- Pad Man

Don’t you think Sonam Kapoor falling for Akshay Kumar’s character has anything to do with the story?
9- Mission Mangal

The movie is about the ISRO scientists working on a mission. However, a major portion of the story was focused on the unhealthy obsession of Parmeshwar with Eka which was pretty distracting.
10- Bhaag Milkha Bhaag

Milkha Singh was seen kissing an Australian actress in the movie. She didn’t do the storyline any favors.
11- Special 26

Kajal Aggarwal played Akshay Kumar’s love interest and had 20 minutes of screen time that was absolutely unforgettable.
12- Dus

This movie could have definitely done without the sexual tension between Sanjay Dutt and Shilpa Shetty.
13- Airlift

While the movie is focused on one of the biggest Indian missions, it also shows the husband-wife bickering between Akshay and Nimrat.
14- Every Dhoom movie ever

Everyone watches Dhoom movies for the heist. It would be good if they leave the romance to other movies and focus on making a heist thriller.
