Seen in the chilling Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan starrer Bhool Bhulaiya is Chomu Palace, a 300-year-old palace-turned-hotel rich with Rajasthani architecture.
2- Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani – The Oberoi Udaivilas, Udaipur
Remember the grand wedding of Kalki Koechlin in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani? The location for that big fat Indian wedding is The Oberoi Udaivilas. The royal dome-styled architecture standing beautifully on the banks of Udaipur’s Lake Pichola, makes it the perfect place to spend not just quality time, but live life king-size.
3- Veer Zaara – Pataudi Palace, Neemrana
Pataudi Palace, a former palace of the Nawabs of Pataudi has been converted into a heritage property and is the filming location of many movies. The property served as the home of Zaara Hayat Khan (played by Preity Zinta) in Veer Zaara, Yash Chopra’s epic love story. The song ‘Main Yahaan Hoon Yahaan’ featuring Shahrukh and Preity was shot in the property itself.
4- 3 Idiots – Chail Palace, Himachal
It was Chail Palace where the character of Ranchoddas played by Javed Jaffrey lived and have the fight with the urn. The heritage hotel of Chail is actually a royal cottage that stands amidst the Himalayas.
5- Band Baaja Baaraat, Lallgarh Palace, Bikaner
When it comes to shooting a grand wedding scene in a movie, what can be a better place opting for an opulent looking palace? The complete wedding sequence towards the end of the movie Band Baaja Baaraat has been shot in the imposing and striking Lallgarh palace, one of the most popular heritage hotels of Bikaner. This red sandstone structure was commissioned by Maharaja Ganga Singh.
6- Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam – Vijay Vilas Palace, Kutch
The former summer palace of Jadeja Rajas of Kutch and the residence palace of Maharao Vijay Singhji during the 40’s, Vijay Vilas Palace is an impressive structure, spread in 450-acres of land. It was the home of Aishwarya Rai’s in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.
7- Bodyguard – Baradari Palace, Patiala
Kareena Kapoor’s palatial house in Bodyguard is actually the Baradari Palace in Patiala. Belonging to the 19th century, Baradari Palace is an imposing structure that is placed amid lush well-maintained gardens. It has now been revamped by Neemrana Group of Hotels and movies like Mausam and Yamla Pagla Deewana have also been shot here.
8- Zubeidaa – Hotel Narain Niwas Palace, Jaipur
Bollywood has always been popular for its fondness of producing period films, and when it comes to shooting such a film, one needs a place that easily conveys a Rajputana feel. Hotel Narain Niwas of Jaipur is one such property. Films like Paheli and Zubeida, portraying some wonderful cinema, have been shot in this palace turned heritage hotel.
9- Khoobsurat– The Laxmi Niwas Palace, Bikaner
Laxmi Niwas Palace located in the Lalgarh Palace Complex, Bikaner, Rajasthan. It was built in the Indo-Saracenic style and was seen as Fawad Khan’s royal home in the Sonam Kapoor starrer Khoobsurat. Built primarily in sandstone, the palace was designed by Sir Samuel Swinton Jacob.
10- Jab We Met – Hotel Naggar Castle, Himachal Pradesh
Whenever the playful song ‘Yeh Ishq Hai’ from Jab We Met plays on your TV, you cannot stop yourself from humming it. One of the amazing locations where the song was shot is the splendid Hotel Naggar Castle. The hotel is located in Kullu and is just beside the river Beas, and is mostly constructed with wood from whole trees.
