The coronavirus pandemic caused the entire world to go into a state of lockdown. Since the lockdown came into effect, streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video have been entertaining the audience with their original content.
Not just web series, these platforms have also provided us with a few movies that have released exclusively on digital platforms. While these films didn’t have a digital release out of choice, the producers still managed to make some pretty big numbers by selling exclusive streaming rights.
Below are 10 such Bollywood movies that were sold to OTT platforms:
1- Laxmmi Bomb
Laxmmi Bomb is an official remake of the Tamil film, Muni 2: Kanchana. Starring Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani, the film has been sold to Disney+ Hotstar for a deal worth ₹125 crore.
2- Bhuj: The Pride of India
The multi starrer drama Bhuj: The Pride of India featuring Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha, Nora Fatehi, Sharad Kelkar and Ammy Virk was sold to Disney+ Hotstar for ₹110 crore.
3- The Big Bull
The Big Bull, a film starring Abhishek Bachchan and Ileana D’Cruz, is based on the journey of Hashad Mehta’s rise as one of the big-league stockbrokers in the country and his subsequent downfall. The makers sold the rights to Disney+ Hotstar for ₹40 Crore.
4- Khuda Hafiz
Khuda Haafiz is a romantic action thriller film featuring Vidyut Jammwal and Shivaleeka Oberoi in the lead roles. The film was sold to Disney+ Hotstar for ₹10 crore.
5- Gulaabo Sitaabo
Gulabo Sitabo, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana was sold to Amazon Prime for ₹65 crore.
6- Shakuntala Devi
Shakuntala Devi, is a biographical film starring Vidya Balan, Sanya Malhotra, and Amit Sadh. The deal was closed with Amazon Prime for ₹40 crore.
7- Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl
Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl starring Jhanvi Kapoor and Pankaj Tripathi is based on the real life story of Gunjan Saxena. The film was sold to Netflix for a deal worth ₹50 crore.
8- Sadak 2
Sadak 2 starring Sanjay Dutt, Alia Bhatt, Pooja Bhatt, Aditya Roy Kapur is the sequel to the 1991 film, Sadak. The film rights have been sold to Disney+ Hotstar for a deal worth ₹70 crore.
Kunal Kemmu starrer Lootcase, is a film where the protagonist comes across a suitcase full of cash, and what he does with the money. The film was sold to Disney+ Hotstar for ₹10 crores.
10- Dil Bechara
Sushant Singh Rajput’s last movie, Dil Bechara, costarring Sanjana Sanghi is an official adaptation of the book The Fault In Our Stars. The deal was closed with Disney+ Hotstar for ₹40 crores.
